SEA LION is a variety of SEAL. Two species occur on the coast. The Steller (northern) sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus) breeds at 3 main rookeries: in HECATE STRAIT, at the south end of the QUEEN CHARLOTTE ISLANDS and at Scott Island off northwest VANCOUVER ISLAND.
