Sheep Creek

SHEEP CREEK, a tributary of the Salmo R, 40 km south of NELSON in the W KOOTENAY, was also the name of a MINING camp. About 750,000 oz of GOLD came from the area from 1899 to 1916 and from 1934 to 1942, much of it from the Yellowstone Mine. Lead and ZINC were mined on Iron Mt (1908–26) and at COMINCO's HB site (1953–78), and important tungsten deposits were mined from 1939 to 1958.
