SLUG is the common name for several species of pulmonate (having a lung rather than gills) gastropod ("belly-foot") MOLLUSCS. "Slug" refers only to body shape: several varieties have apparently evolved separately from different groups of sea snails. Most slugs that occur in BC live near the Mid- and South Coast and on the islands as they prefer moist, temperate conditions. The slug has a long, smooth body with a muscular "foot" along the bottom that moves the slug forward in peristaltic waves....
