SMITH, Michael, biochemist, Nobel laureate (b 26 Apr 1932, Blackpool, England; d 4 Oct 2000, Vancouver). After receiving his PhD from the Univ of Manchester he immigrated to Canada in 1956 to work with Har Gobind KHORANA at the BC Research Council.
