SPOFFORD, Cecilia McNaughton, suffrage campaigner (b 4 Dec 1859, Sydney, NS; d 18 Feb 1938, Victoria). A schoolteacher by profession, she was active in the Woman's Christian Temperance Union; as its president in 1909 she launched a province-wide campaign for WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE. She played an important role in delegations to government and PROHIBITION parades and rallies.
