St Elias Mountains

ST ELIAS MOUNTAINS lie along the BC–Alaska border, tucked into the northwest corner of the province between the Yukon and the Alaska panhandle. The range includes Mt FAIRWEATHER (4,663 m), the highest peak in BC (Mt WADDINGTON is the highest peak completely within BC). An area of spectacular alpine scenery rich in wildlife, it is part of TATSHENSHINIALSEK Wilderness Provincial PARK (9,580 sq km, created in 1993) and a vast 8.4 million-ha WORLD HERITAGE SITE created by the UN in 1994.
