STIKINE TERRITORY () was a short-lived jurisdiction in northern BC. When mainland BC became a colony in 1858, its northern boundary was set rather vaguely at the STIKINE and FINLAY rivers. Rumours of GOLD discoveries on the Stikine prompted Britain on 19 July 1862 to create a separate territory north of the river to the 62nd parallel and east to the 125th meridian.
