STOLTMANN WILDERNESS is 2,600 sq km of coastal FOREST at the headwaters of the Elaho R, north of SQUAMISH. Two portions were protected as provincial PARKS in 1996, but INTERNATIONAL FOREST PRODUCTS (Interfor) received permission to log in the rest and as of 1999 conservationists were fighting to preserve what remained unlogged in the entire area (see also ENVIRONMENTAL MOVEMENT).
