Swanson, Robert Eugene


SWANSON, Robert Eugene, engineer, poet (b 26 Oct 1905, Reading, England; d 4 Oct 1994, Vancouver). His family immigrated to VANCOUVER ISLAND before WWI, and as a teenager he trained as a steam engineer, finding his first jobs in LOGGING camps on the Island. Eventually he earned his degree as a professional engineer, and in 1936 he went to work for the provincial government as a steam inspector. During the following years he wrote the folksy poems about logging life that won him the nickname...
