TRIUMF (Tri-University Meson Facility) is Canada's national research facility for subatomic physics. Established in 1968, it is located at UBC, where it is managed as a joint venture by 4 universities—UBC, Univ of Alberta, SFU and UNIV OF VICTORIA—with 6 other universities as associate members. It is the site of the world's largest cyclotron, a machine used to accelerate subatomic particles, and is at the forefront of international research in subatomic science.
