TAYLOR, district municipality, pop 1,143 (2001), lies at the confluence of the PEACE and Pine rivers on the ALASKA HWY, 18 km south of FORT ST JOHN in the northeast corner of the province. Alexander MACKENZIE passed by in May 1793 on his historic overland expedition to the Pacific Ocean. It is named for Herbie Taylor, a FUR TRADER, farmer and ferry operator who settled here with his family in 1912. As part of the construction of the Alaska Hwy, the Peace River Suspension Bridge opened in 1943....
