TELKWA, village, pop 1,474 (2021), is situated on the Yellowhead Hwy, 370 km west of PRINCE GEORGE where the Telkwa and BULKLEY rivers meet. Telkwa was on the route of the COLLINS OVERLAND TELEGRAPH, constructed in the 1860s. It became the commercial centre of the Bulkley Valley until pre-WWI construction of the GRAND TRUNK PACIFIC RWY shifted development to SMITHERS.
