THEYTUS BOOKS, the first BOOK PUBLISHING company in Canada owned and operated by aboriginal people, was founded in 1981 in NANAIMO by Randy Fred. The following year it moved to PENTICTON under new ownership and then became associated with the EN'OWKIN CENTRE there. The name Theytus means "to preserve for the purpose of handing down." The press specializes in books by and about aboriginal N Americans.
