Thunderbird Park


THUNDERBIRD PARK, next door to the ROYAL BC MUSEUM in VICTORIA, was created by the museum in 1941 to display the work of FIRST NATIONS carvers. By 1952 the TOTEM POLES there were deteriorating in the weather and had to be moved inside. The museum hired 3 carvers—Mungo MARTIN, his son David, and Henry HUNT—to make duplicate poles in a new carving shed. Carvers have worked at the park ever since.
