TUSKSHELL, also known as toothshell or dentalum, is an elusive marine MOLLUSC belonging to the class Scaphopoda. The name refers to the curved, tapered shell that resembles a miniature elephant tusk. Open at both ends, it burrows into the ocean floor and lives almost its entire life in the sand, where it uses small tentacles to direct food to its mouth.
