VANCOUVER INSTITUTE FOR THE VISUAL ARTS (VIVA) was a charitable foundation created in 1988 by Doris and Jack SHADBOLT. Using money donated mainly by the Shadbolts, VIVA presents 2 $10,000 awards annually to BC artists to support their work, plus a $50,000 "award of honour" every 5 years. The foundation is managed by a volunteer board and award recipients are chosen by an independent selection panel.
