West Coast Trail


WEST COAST TRAIL is an arduous 77-km hiking TRAIL between PORT RENFREW and BAMFIELD on the west coast of VANCOUVER ISLAND. Originally the West Coast Lifesaving Trail, it was built during 1907–10, after a telegraph line was strung between VICTORIA and Cape Beale in 1899–1900. The trail allowed boats and lifesaving equipment to be carried to the scene of accidents along the coast. River mouths were crossed by aerial trolleys.
