WEST KOOTENAY POWER & LIGHT CO (WKP) was incorporated in 1897 to provide HYDROELECTRIC power to the ROSSLAND mining camp. It was founded by a consortium of entrepreneurs led by Sir Charles Ross, a Scottish landowner and MINING investor (and later manufacturer of the infamous Ross rifle).
