Westham Island

WESTHAM ISLAND lies in the mouth of the south arm of the FRASER R, south of VANCOUVER in DELTA. First settled by farmers in the 1870s, it has retained its AGRICULTURAL character. Many of today's farmers are partners in the effort to provide feeding areas for the hundreds of thousands of migrating waterfowl travelling the PACIFIC FLYWAY. The Canadian Wildlife Service research installation Alaksen and the REIFEL MIGRATORY BIRD SANCTUARY are at the north end.
