Winch, Harold Edward


WINCH, Harold Edward, electrician, politician, leader of the CCF 1939–53 (b 18 June 1907, Loughton, England; d 1 Feb 1993, Vancouver). The son of the labour leader Ernest WINCH, he was raised in a socialist household (at one point J.S. Woodsworth, the founder of the CCF, was a lodger), and he became politically active during the Depression when he edited the SOCIALIST PARTY OF BC paper, the Clarion.
