Winlaw

WINLAW, pop 273, 33 km north of CASTLEGAR, is a farming settlement in the Slocan R valley. John Winlaw built a sawmill here in 1900 and many DOUKHOBORS settled in the area, naming their communal villages Kirpichnoe (Russian for "bricks") and Vesoloe ("merryland"). Valhalla Provincial PARK is nearby.
