WOODPECKER is a tiny ranching settlement and former steamship landing on the BC RAIL line, 45 km south of PRINCE GEORGE on the east side of the FRASER R. Woodpecker Island in the river near here was named for the sound of wood being chopped for fuel for passing riverboats.
