Wright, John "Jack"


WRIGHT, John "Jack," tennis player (b 11 Nov 1901, Nelson; d Sept 1949). In 1950 the Canadian Press news agency named him Canada's outstanding TENNIS player of the half century. He won the Canadian singles championship in 1927, 1929 and 1931 and was ranked 1st in Canada for 7 consecutive years. With partner Willard Crocker he also captured the 1923, 1925 and 1929 national doubles titles. Wright played on every Canadian Davis Cup team 1923–33.
