ZUKERMAN, George, musician (b 22 Feb 1927, England). He is Canada's leading bassoonist, credited with elevating the bassoon from the back rows of the orchestra to centre stage as a solo instrument. He came to BC in 1953 from Israel, where he had played with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
