Thornton Islands


Thornton Islands (49˚58'00" 127˚20'00" One of the Barrier Is, SW of Union I, entrance to Kyuquot Sd, NW side of Vancouver I). The Thornton was one of the earliest sailing vessels on the BC coast. Built in 1861 at Dungeness, Washington, the tiny, 26-tonne, 16-m sloop was owned by Capt James Warren (see Warren Rks) of Victoria, who traded along the W coast of Vancouver I and later became deeply involved in BC’s sealing and steamship industries with his partner Joseph Boscowitz.
