BC WATERFOWL SOCIETY, created in 1961, is devoted to the welfare of waterfowl and the preservation of their habitat. The society's major accomplishment was the creation, in 1963, of the George C. REIFEL MIGRATORY BIRD SANCTUARY on the foreshore at WESTHAM ISLAND in the ESTUARY of the FRASER R. The sanctuary now encompasses 6.5 sq km of WETLANDS where waterfowl are viewed and studied.
