BEVAN was a coal mining town north of CUMBERLAND in the COMOX Valley. A company town, it was built during 1911–12 by Canadian Collieries near one of its mines. As the mine began to deteriorate at the end of WWI so did the town, though it enjoyed a brief revival from 1937 to 1953, when #8 mine nearby was productive. See also COAL MINING, VANCOUVER ISLAND.
