BLUBBER BAY, pop 338, a community at the northern end of TEXADA ISLAND, is the terminus of a BC FERRIES route from POWELL RIVER, 10 km northeast. Limestone has been exported from the area since before WWI and a very visible quarry above the village ships out almost 2 million tonnes a year. The ruins of old lime kilns can be seen nearby. The bay is named for a short-lived WHALING operation run by Elijah Fader in the late 1880s.
