CACHALOT, on the south shore of Cachalot Inlet in KYUQUOT SOUND, 85 km southeast of PORT HARDY on VANCOUVER ISLAND, was a WHALING station from 1907 to 1924 established by Sprott BALCOLM and the Pacific Whaling Co. In 1926 it was converted to a pilchard (see SARDINE, PACIFIC) reduction plant by the Wallace Bros and operated for another 10 years. More WHALES were landed here than anywhere else in BC.
