Chee Kye

CHEE KYE, 10 km north of SQUAMISH, was a tiny LOGGING and farming (see AGRICULTURE) settlement on the Pacific Great Eastern Rwy (see BC RAIL) where the Cheekye R joins the CHEAKAMUS R. The name—Squamish for "dirty place"—was originally applied to Mt Garibaldi and may refer to the appearance of the old snow on the mountainsides.
