Croft, Henry


CROFT, Henry, engineer, politician (b 15 Jan 1856, Sydney, Australia; d 28 July 1917). Trained as a civil engineer in England, he returned to his native Australia in 1879, then immigrated in 1882 to BC. Here he got involved in the lumber business and married a daughter of Robert DUNSMUIR. In 1898 he developed the Lenora Mine on Mt SICKER, north of VICTORIA, and in 1902 built a SMELTER on the east coast of VANCOUVER ISLAND to process COPPER ore from the mine.
