DUNSMUIR, Robert, industrialist, politician (b 31 Aug 1825, Hurlford, Scotland; d 12 Apr 1889, Victoria). He arrived on VANCOUVER ISLAND in 1851 to work at the HBC COAL deposits at FORT RUPERT and later in NANAIMO. When his contract with the company expired he stayed on as a mine manager and became extremely wealthy with his own coal properties at WELLINGTON.
