FRANKLIN CAMP, 60 km west of NANAIMO and about halfway between PORT ALBERNI and BAMFIELD on VANCOUVER ISLAND, was established in 1934 by BLOEDEL, STEWART & WELCH and became the base for extensive RAILWAY LOGGING operations until 1957, when trucks took over. The camp was run by MacMILLAN BLOEDEL for years, until WEYERHAEUSER CANADA LTD bought that company.
