FYLES, Tom, mountaineer (b 1887; d 1979, Vancouver). While working all his adult life as a mail carrier in VANCOUVER, he was the leading MOUNTAINEER in the South Coast area from WWI to the mid-1930s. He made first ascents of the Table and the North Peak of BLACK TUSK in GARIBALDI PROVINCIAL PARK; Dione, Pelops and Omega peaks in the TANTALUS RANGE; American Border Peak in the CASCADE MTS; and Widgeon Peak and Mt Judge Howay in the FRASER VALLEY, as well as several peaks at the head of BUTE...
