Hakai Recreation Area


HAKAI RECREATION AREA, 1,229.98 sq km, created in 1987, is the largest MARINE PARK on the West Coast. It consists of an archipelago of islands south of BELLA BELLA, including all or part of CALVERT, Hecate and HUNTER islands. There is evidence of ancient habitation; at least 130 ARCHAEOLOGICAL sites have been recorded, including MIDDENS, pictographs (see ROCK ART), fish traps and winter village sites.
