Hudson's Hope

HUDSON'S HOPE, district municipality, pop 1,039 (2001), lies beside the PEACE R in the foothills of the ROCKY MTS, 90 km west of FORT ST JOHN. In 1805 Simon FRASER established ROCKY MT PORTAGE HOUSE here as a jumping-off spot for the NORTH WEST CO's expansion across the mountains into the Interior of BC.
