HUGHES, Edward John, artist (b 17 Feb 1913, N Vancouver; d 5 Jan 2007, Nanaimo). Raised in NANAIMO and N VANCOUVER, he studied during the Depression at the Vancouver School of Decorative and Applied Arts (see EMILY CARR INSTITUTE OF ART & DESIGN), where he encountered Fred VARLEY and J.W.G.
