Joy, Greg

JOY, Greg, high jumper (b 23 Apr 1956, Portland, OR). Raised in VANCOUVER, he won the high jump at the Canada Games in BURNABY at age 16 and broke the 7-ft mark in Athens, Greece 2 years later. He was a student at the Univ of Texas at El Paso when he travelled to Montreal for the 1976 Olympic Games. Despite poor track conditions and a foot injury that interfered with his training he cleared 7' 3¾" in to win the silver medal, Canada's first medal in the high jump since Duncan McNAUGHTON's gold...
