Lantzville


LANTZVILLE, pop 3,661 (2006), overlooks GEORGIA STRAIT 10 km north of NANAIMO on the east side of VANCOUVER ISLAND. Nanoose Collieries opened a COAL mine here in 1917. It was purchased by a Seattle company in 1920 and the townsite that grew up around the mine was named after a director of the company. Coal MINING continued through the 1930s. By the end of the 20th century Lantzville was a residential seaside community known for its winter population of SEA LIONS.
