METLAKATLA  () is an ancient TSIMSHIAN village site on Venn Passage, opposite PRINCE RUPERT on the North Coast. In 1862 the ANGLICAN CHURCH missionary at FORT SIMPSON, William DUNCAN, decided to move here with some of his Tsimshian converts to establish a model Christian community away from what he considered to be the corrupting influences of the FUR TRADE post.
