Oyster River

OYSTER RIVER flows from VANCOUVER ISLAND's FORBIDDEN PLATEAU into GEORGIA STRAIT 22 km north of COURTENAY, a distance of about 40 km. The river is a favourite with FLY FISHERS; a recreational community formed at its mouth around an early resort and store called the Fisherman's Lodge. Sandy Saratoga Beach is nearby, as are Miracle Beach Provincial PARK and the Oyster R and Oyster Bay Shoreline regional parks. See also RIVERS.
