Pender Harbour


PENDER HARBOUR, pop 2,500, is a jumble of islands, bays and lagoons on the SUNSHINE COAST north of SECHELT. It contains the small communities of GARDEN BAY, IRVINES LANDING, Kleindale and MADEIRA PARK. It was charted in 1860 by the British Admiralty and named for Daniel Pender, who surveyed the coast with great zeal from 1857 to 1870 as master of the ships Plumper, Hecate and BEAVER.
