POPE & TALBOT LTD, one of N America's oldest forest companies, was founded by Andrew Jackson Pope and Frederic Talbot when they opened a lumberyard in San Francisco in 1849. After more than a century of expansion in the Pacific northwestern states, the Portland-based company moved into BC in 1969 with the purchase of Boundary Forest Products, the owner of sawmills at MIDWAY and GRAND FORKS.
