Quinsam

QUINSAM, 14 km west of CAMPBELL RIVER on VANCOUVER ISLAND, was a major RWY LOGGING camp (pop 350) and maintenance centre until truck LOGGING took over in 1953. Today it is a regional base for Timber West Forest Ltd (Camp 8). The Quinsam R, with its SALMON hatchery (see also FISH HATCHERIES), links Upper Quinsam R and Quinsam Lks to the Campbell R near DISCOVERY PASSAGE. The nearby Quinsam coal mine was in production until early 2015 when declining markets caused its closure.
