RACE ROCKS, the most southerly point in western Canada, is a jumble of tiny islets in JUAN DE FUCA STRAIT off the southern tip of VANCOUVER ISLAND. A danger to mariners, they have been the scene of numerous shipwrecks and claimed many lives over the years. The second LIGHTHOUSE on the coast was built on Great Race Rock in 1860.
