RONNING, Bernt, pioneer homesteader (b 24 June 1883, Norway; d 1965, Arlington, WA). He came to the HOLBERG area of northern VANCOUVER ISLAND in 1910 and later homesteaded along the historic trail linking Holberg to CAPE SCOTT. Making a living as a trapper, fisher and camp cook, he imported seeds from around the world to indulge his passion for growing trees and shrubs.
