Sayward


SAYWARD, village, pop 370 (2001), is a LOGGING community near the mouth of the SALMON R on JOHNSTONE STRAIT, 75 km north of CAMPBELL RIVER on VANCOUVER ISLAND. Originally called Salmon River, it took its present name in 1911 from William P. SAYWARD, a pioneer mill owner. Nearby KELSEY BAY was the southern terminus for the BC FERRIES run to PRINCE RUPERT (1966–79) until it was moved to PORT HARDY.
