SHAWNIGAN LAKE SCHOOL is a private boarding school at SHAWNIGAN LAKE on VANCOUVER ISLAND. It was established as a school for boys in 1916 by Christopher W. Lonsdale, a 30-year-old English-born hotel manager, in a building formerly used as a girls' school. It began as an ANGLICAN preparatory school on the English model, designed to produce young gentlemen. The building burned in 1926; it was rebuilt and the school incorporated as a non-profit society and began accepting boys of all grades....
