Somenos

SOMENOS  () , 50 km north of VICTORIA on the Island Hwy and the ESQUIMALT & NANAIMO RWY, is a VANCOUVER ISLAND farming district (see AGRICULTURE) near Somenos Lk. Somenos Marsh is an important nesting and wintering refuge for waterfowl. The name is a COWICHAN word and refers to the "resting places" where paddlers on the COWICHAN R could take a break.
