SPROAT, Gilbert Malcolm, entrepreneur, author, Indian commissioner (b 19 Apr 1834, Borgue, Scotland; d 4 June 1913, Victoria). He came to VANCOUVER ISLAND in 1860 as a representative of a London firm helping to finance a sawmill at PORT ALBERNI.
